After he accidentally slashed his leg with a machete while clearing land, a brokerage firm colleague facetiously dubbed Barganier “The Slash Broker.” The quip prompted him to pen the first lines of his debut novel: “They scarcely knew him. He’d just walked in off the street one hot, dry day in June.” These first lines evolved into an international political suspense thriller Barganier aptly titled The Slash Brokers. Young stock broker Stuart Dealier—who happens to have a rare blood type—is caught in a web of international intrigue between American patriots and international human organ traffickers. Since its 1998 publication, many readers have called this book “prophetic.” Unfortunately, its narrative is still quite relevant today. Based on Congressional Hearings held in 1995, some scenes flow directly from actual news accounts. The Slash Brokers received excellent reviews in the Montgomery Advertiser and Mobile Press Register. Barganier was interviewed extensively about this book on TV and talk-radio in the late nineties and conducted book signings throughout the Southeast.
